Hi everyone!

Podcast 100 inspired me to do a little survey. Only one question - how do you dispose of CFL's? It is totally anonymous, so PLEASE honestly relate what you actually normally do, not what you actually wish you did. And please do respond, if you own CFL's- I want to hear from YOU!

Click here to answer my ONE QUESTION survey!

I think this is an interesting venue for the survey because I suspect there is no cut of the population who will "properly dispose" of CFL's more frequently. I will leave the survey up till the end of the year and report statistics afterward.

I recently had a discussion with my assistant manager at work about disposing of good old traditional fluorescent bulbs and neither of us had any better idea than throwing them in the dumpster. Now that LED's have become widely available I will never buy another fluorescent bulb myself.

Also, it would be nice to be able to see the results of the survey.

Lorne,

According to this site http://lamprecycle.org/ the bulbs you refer to do contain some mercury. Although I have never heard it advertised before. I wonder...

Thanks for the support anyway. We'll see what happens.

19 responses so far. Not bad!

I'd love to get at least 50 results if possible. So feel free to let me know where your CFL's go. Results on the new year.

The CFL disposal issue is coming up a lot recently,
as politicians in other light bulb regulating countries realize the problems..

eg "Acute Crisis" in post-ban EU from CFL dumping / lack of recycling, according to a minister
http://freedomlightbulb.blogspot.com/2011/12/swedish-environment-minister-acute.html

Canada 2 year delay of any incandescent ban, in part due to "CFL disposal issues"
