One of my goats (a French Alpine) who kidded to a singleton at the end of June, has just come back on heat. She was VERY tail-waggy at the buck today and very swollen but I noticed that when she stooped to pee, she had a blood discharge. Is this normal? She seems absolutely fine in all other respects.

Clear discharge or mucus, yes. Blood no. Possible vaginal infection?

Is there a possibility that the buck was a bit rough? Does that happen?

What's the latest, did it clear up or you take her to vet?

Well it was just the one day and not a large amount. The 'trouble' when you watch your animals so closely is that you notice every little thing and it preys on your mind (that's what my husband tells me anyway!). It cleared up the next day and 8 days later she was REALLY on heat and calling to the male LOUDLY. So maybe it was her way of coming back to fertility.

It's good you noticed it though...lots of people don't see that type of thing until it becomes a big problem! She's probably fine but keep an eye on her, goats can go down hill quick. As long as the symptom doesn't persist and she is acting normal, she should be ok.
