What is your ideal area in the western US? I'm looking for western united states excluding California (for a variety of reasons, taxes, expenses, etc) to be within a couple days drive of nevada and arizona, where I have close family located.

While driving through southern idaho I saw a bunch of geothermal hot springs and figured those would be great for producing an abundance of food during the winter in addition to providing free heat/hot water for your house too.

My goal is to be able to grow a lot of fruit and vegetables during the year. To do this I'd likely use greenhouses for winter vegetable production (growing 100lbs of kale doesn't count as vegetable production to me, although it is useful). In order to do this, I'd like a place with a decent amount of sun during the winter. During the summer I would like something that has reasonable temperatures or rain. I currently live in the PNW and the greatest problem I have there is that even a south facing slope in the winter doesn't get sun because its blocked by clouds 90% of the time.

Ideally I would like 200 acres or so, but I could make do with as little as 5.

Any ideas?

Life just hasn't been the same since the volcano erupted and now the air is full of tiny ads.
