Just a quick comment on this, you can't cut those "thousand of trees for timber" in Costa Rica if they are part of a natural forest already. It requires a plan de manejo, which is very costly to cut in an existing forest. If you planted as a plantation, or a few trees in a field (3 per 2.5 acres, roughly) of a type that is permitted, you can. You can generally cut up to 10 trees a year, but those have to be based on certain requirements.

Yes, I know this stuff, I own plantations in Costa Rica.

Cutting trees without a permit can result in fines, expulsion from the country, jail time, etc. The Costa Ricans take this very seriously and ignorance of the law is no excuse.

We have worked with Minae (the Costa Rican forest service) and a government run reforestation project.
We have planted trees for a reforestation project and have permission to harvest a large amount of these trees.
We also have permission to thin out existing growth outside the rainforest... many of these trees are smaller and can be used for posts in natural building.
We do not have advocate harvesting protected growth ever.
We also have a few large fallen trees on site, one being a large oak, that is permissible to mill.

Sounds good then, all plantation trees can be removed (you planted, they are a crop by law) except those withing 15 or 50 meters of a waterway, depending on the terrain. You should always have a forestry engineer do your paperwork. This is required for all trees except at times for the 10 trees permitted for use within the property.

We are doing both...
forming community and selling.

Community is a future vision for our life and project. We are selling this farm for another one nearby because of our desire to raise more horses and cows...
the farm we are selling is ideal for 1-2 horses or cows, a small herd of goats, and many chickens..
It is also ideal for a forming community or even a retreat center.
It has many options as far as development goes.
we have lived here as a forming community, running an internship program...
The farm is gorgeous, and most all systems are based on permaculture methods.
