How do goats help sustain the life they feed on?

Hey there dear soiled hands, i am currently living in a space that is inhabited by chickens, ducks, dogs, a cat, and 2 goats. The community i live in, is very diverse culturally, socially, economically, and well, certainly when it comes to homesteading, gardening, and our lovely goats. We have a mulberry bush, and this is the absolute favorite feed of our free range goats... but i was wondering if the mulberry bush benefited from the goat’s pruning? If it does, in what ways? Knowing these things could help this community move forward with the issues we have at hand. Thank you endlessly

They typically prune the lower leaves and branches, the same ones "traditional gardeners" tell you to pinch off to increase fruit production. The lower leaves and sucker branches take more nutrients from the tree than they add.

But that is only for an established tree/bush. If goats can reach the top shoots they will prune a tree back to nothing.

So the answer is maybe. They might not just do the right thing on their own, but if you manage them a little bit they will be a benefit.

Yes in traditional farming they prune the lower layers...nevertheless i am not all that in support of pruning, i like to let things grow... but an important part of systems is the pruning that animals part take in. Do you have any suggestions as to how to manage them? I cannot build a fence around the mulberry tree/big bush because its far far far too big in its diameter, but i assume you have some other thoughts?
