I am in N.J. and would like to dig up some Comfrey root and start them indoors - will it kill the plant if I just take 1 root and will the root cutting grow indoors this time of year?

Hi Mike,

How old is your comfrey?  If it is say, 3 years old or older and the ground not frozen solid, I think you would be perfectly safe taking a small amount of root to start another plant.  Comfrey is pretty tough, durable stuff and some people actually have the problem of trying to get rid of it.

If it is say 5 years or older, go ahead and take as much as you want.  You probably could not kill the comfrey if you tried.

Good Luck!

Eric
