I've been toting this old, moth- eaten cashmere sweater around, for years, with the intention of 'doing something with it'. I always knew it would be something with needle felting, but when I pulled it out again, yesterday (Friday - and set it aside, AGAIN, until today) it was even more holey, than before. I knew if it was ever going to be more than moth food, it was now, or never! So, I tried it on, took a few pics, and started cutting. After getting a shape I liked, it was time to pull out my old beat-up stash of roving scraps, and start playing!

My child-like felt flowers picture is just right, for the coming spring. There are hours and hours of needle pouncing ahead, but everything is at least tacked down, pretty well - right down to the heart everyone has always said I wear on my sleeve - in purple, because... PURPLE. I'm sure more detail will come along, as I go - like the big thistle, that needs detail. The rosebud needs more, too. The clouds may need some sun - or more clouds, and I'm just not sure yet, whether 2 bluebirds are sufficient. No matter what else, there will be a need to finish off the raw edges, all the way around, and at the newly shortened 3/4 length sleeves.

The bits of sweater I've cut off won't be wasted, either. The sleeves will be turned into a few drawstring soap bags, for washing my face (cashmere washcloth, anyone???) & making my hand crafted soaps lay longer, part of the bottom that I cut off will make a lovely cover, or two, for a small hot water bottle - or, maybe mittens - or a sweater for my puppy, Charlie, and any tiny scraps will either be used for stuffing as stuffies for my puppy, felting onto something else (my good, wool socks, maybe?) for repair, or, if all else fails, shredded, and placed into the bushes, for the birds to use, in their nests.
What are you saying? I thought you said that Santa gave you that. And this tiny ad:
