I recently started my first mushroom grow kit (see attachment). I noticed that there are many emerging mushrooms near the bottom, and in other places that (appear to) have no chance of making their way to the one X-shaped cut in the bag. Some at the bottom look like they've become pretty badly smooshed in there, already. I'm wondering how I should interpret this, and which action I should take in order to maximize my yield.
The various grow kits out there have pretty minimal instructions, and not very many images as reference points. My particular grow kit came with instructions to cut just one hole, and moisten the whole kit in a plastic "greenhouse" sleeve. After harvest, I am supposed to dry the kit out for a few weeks, then re-start the process and cut a new hole. I will supposedly be able to do this 6 times.
I suspect that my current situation might be either of the following:
This is totally normal. It's all about energy distribution. If I cut more slits, then the harvest will just have more smaller mushrooms, and a smaller next-harvest. I should just leave it alone. The entire substrate got very moist, instead of just the area around the hole, and as a result, mushrooms are starting to grow everywhere. This isn't the way it was supposed to work out, and I should cut more slits so that those mushrooms can properly grow instead of rotting at the bottom.
What do you think?
