SUMMARY
In this handbook, a reader can get information about the ways of finding a location with warmer microclimate than its surroundings and the ways of improving already existing favorable microclimate conditions. This advancement can be achieved with some simple methods. This methods are not innovation and they have been used for a long time, but it is usually about the application of one method rather than a combination of all factors in one place and the maximum improvement of the microclimate conditions. Theoretically speaking, the effect of combining all factors in one place could create the microclimate conditions which are significantly more convenient than those in the surroundings of the selected place. Consequently, this could positively reflect on the quantity and quality of the harvest and it would be possible to grow plants from warmer regions. Additionally, those conditions would drastically decrease energy expenditures of a household.
The author of the handbook uses facts, photos and numerous illustrations to present all of the factors which influence the microclimate modification. In the end, he hypothetically introduces the outcome of the combination of all factors in one place.

SAMPLES

A thermal belt is a zone characterized by milder frosts and it is formed on the slopes, respectively, between a top and foot of the mountain. On clear nights without wind, cold air from the mountain tops drains down the hill to lower points and, like water, pools in valleys and pits.

Windbreak reduces wind velocity on a leeward side for 5 to 10 times the height of the windbreak. The picture shows the 10 meters high windbreak which protects the area of 100 meters on the leeward side, but wind velocity increases with departure from the windbreak.

We can conclude that the result of microclimate influence of several elements in one place would be a couple of degrees higher average annual temperature, significantly lower number of frost days than in a nearby basin and there would not be extremely low temperatures.
The picture shows the predicted climatic characteristics of all the three places (our place, unprotected place beside it and place in the valley). The average annual temperature, the average number of frost days per year, record low temperature over a long period of time and USDA hardiness zone to which a given place belongs (USDA hardiness zone is determined based on the lowest record values for each year over a period of time, by calculating the average value. Findings about the zone tell us what sort of plants can be cultivated at the location without the risk of their freezing).

Aleksandar Stevanovic (born 1988) lives in Vranje (Serbia) and he is a professional potter. He is a big fan of climatology, microclimatology and meteorology, about which he have read a lot. He is especially interested in finding places with favorable microclimate and studying the methods that could improve microclimate. Besides, he is a big fan of Mediterranean species of plants and he is interested in experimentation with growing these species in moderate climatic zone, but also of growing the usual species for mentioned climate and advancement of their growing with the help of better microclimatic conditions.
