Hi Permies,

I wanted to make a post to see if others are interested in building homesteads in Costa Rica or Panama. Maybe both :)

I'm from Newfoundland, Canada (Cold Winters) and in 2018/19 I took an 8-month long vacation on the Caribean side of Costa Rica and Panama. LOVE the Area, People, and Countries.

I was able to visit several IC's, and areas and got a feel for the potential these countries have to offer.

I do not have land, yet met and know of a few landowners that are looking to build community and welcome new members to thier communities.

If you are interested in moving, building, living in Costa Rica/Panama. Please join the forum, connect, share and let book our tickets :)

Just to set a small plan/vision.

We are looking at hosting Workshops in Building Bamboo Huts $2K for 2 weeks.
Learn and build. After 2 weeks, one can stay and rent the hut $200 to $400/mt, while helping to build the community.
Provide 20-30hrs/wk working on Gardens, Food forest, Site development, Construction, Food Prep, Etc.

Work, Live, Play and Grow the community :)

Thoughts, comments, suggestions are welcomed

Cheers,
Craig

What to build?

Ok so we have the land (a wish @ this time ;)  and now we need shelter.
We have little time and less money, and what is the best way to get a shelter.

So if we have bamboo we can build a Geodesic Bamboo Stardome :)

Cheap, Fast and Sturdy.
https://www.permaculturenews.org/2020/09/01/geodesic-bamboo-stardome/
https://simplydifferently.org/Star_Dome

Basically, 15-20 bamboo poles, plastic string and trap/plastic sheet can build a simple, fast and cheap shelter

Plastic String Make your own :)

Once we have basic shelter we can then look at building Bamboo Huts for better accommodations :)

Once we have Shelter we can build the food forest and gardens and start community:)

Greetings. I am interested in building a community in either country, with organic food growing as a central focus. I've read it is challenging in Costa Rica. I have a background in Permaculture, Holistic Medicine & Energy Clearing Medicine & teaching.
I'm wondering where you are on this idea now. DD

Hi David,  Still a dream and idea. Covid and all. Now, we will need to deal with Vaccine Passports. I'm not getting a Vac. so not sure if I can even travel anymore.

Maybe time to get a sailboat instead and live on the oceans :)

Yet Panama I have opportunities also.

See what happens later in the fall :)

Cheers,
Craig

Good to know there are other permies who actually trust nature fully. No vax for us either. Keep up the good fight!

Hey!  CR doesn't require vax - let's all go now!  I am very interested. I actually have land there but think there is a better spot on the southern spot.  It is good to get out of the 'way' so to speak.  I am also open to places in the US - but growing in CR is effortless.

Hi I'm visiting Mexico and CR in Dec/ Jan -Apr with a view to buying land for a permaculture/ eco project.
I've travelled Portugal and Spain looking but Europe is not for me so I'm setting my sights further afield. If anyone knows of land or small farm for sale in S costa rica (or outside PV or Puerto escondido in Mexico) I'd be very interested.
Am also keen to check out some communities in the areas it's coast Rica I'm specifically interested in namely Osa peninsula as I've some work to do there.

. I look forward to meeting some of you over there
Here's to a beautiful natural and abundant thriving community based future!
