My Raised Bed Keyhole Garden

Hey guys. I recently got inspired by a cool Send A Cow charity youtube video and decided to build a keyhole garden myself in Connecticut.

I built it a couple weeks ago and my first lettuce and bokchoy plants are now starting to emerge from the soil.

It seems rather labor-intensive, although it would be good for people who can't get down low (if they could find someone to build it for them).  I'm glad it's working so well for you.

Ah.... do you take suggestions?  About 2/3 of your video on this keyhole bed shows your face.  We really don't care what you look like, and would prefer for you to show what you're doing.  Do a voice-over rather than just having someone tape you talking.  And back the camera off a bit?

We did two of these combining intensive digging methods and the keyhole concept.  Actually, we hadn't heard of the keyhold gardens until someone saw ours and pointed out that it looked like the same idea.  I guess it just goes to show that necessity is indeed the mother of invention.

I have to say the rock wall making the raised bed is really great looking.  Might have to do one of those just for the fun of it!

Funny… just a couple of days after posting here about our keyhole-type garden, we found out our neighbors had just installed one as well using wood.  They are new to this so didn't know what a keyhole garden was either.  They just made what seemed to make sense to them so they could maximize space.

This seems to be an wonderful, intuitive way to lay out a bed no mater whether you rock it, trench it or put it in with wood. This design just seems to make sense!

Has anyone seen one that was mounded up higher for maybe access by wheel chairs?
