Fencing off Hugelculture

I am very exited about the idea of building an Hugelgarden, however I would have to fence it off or the animals will get too it in no time... Any suggestions specific to hugelculture?

I view a hedgerow (living fence) as an ideal permaculrure 'fence'. The biggest problem is that it will take several years to become 'animal tight'.

Personally I would make a wide path around it and fence outside of the path.
