Anyone heard of a bean by this name or some variation thereof that is nutritionally excellent and fed to children in Africa?

It rings a bell, but... I'll think on it.
Pretty sure you have the name wrong. Perhaps you are mixing up the name with mung beans? I don't think mung beans are what you mean, though.
