Dear all,

Happy new year first of all.

I'm looking for suggestions to plant a small tree or a big shrub in an area of my small garden which receives little direct sunlight. Ideally I would like this plant to be useful in many respect, either as a source of human food, and/or wood, and/or animal food, and/or bird nesting place, and so on.
The area is located close to a North-North-East-facing wall. I need the plant to be relatively small because I have a small garden, and because I have my veggie garden North of were this plant will be (I don't want it to cast shade on my veggies).
In the area where I want this plant to be I already have some raspberry trees that are doing very well despite not getting much direct sunlight.
I live in the center of France, not too high (around 400 m I think). Winters can be quite cold, occasionaly down to -10. The summers are quite hot, and tend to become drier thanks to the irresponsible burning of fossil fuel by other members of the species I belong to.

Any ideas welcome.

Pierre.

My first thought would be a blueberry or two, but I love them so am probably biased. Getting a bit bigger a red or black current would manage there as would a goosberry.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
