I saw someone commenting about polyculture with Rabbits and Turkeys, decided I would share my "polyculture" system for anyone interested...
We have a few Boer goats and a flock of African geese that have adjacent pens.  They also share a moderate sized pasture.  Sometimes we only let one group in the pasture, but often then are in it together.  The geese like the grasses, the goats prefer the bushes. together, they seem to keep the pasture  healthy and don't bother one another too much.
Anyone want to chime in about concerns or similar experiences?

Hi there, I also run goats and geese together, they get along fine! The geese are so aware that they even help me call the goats in if they don't hear my yell the first time. I would say that out of all the animals I've ever been around, goats and geese are not only the hardiest and most predator-resistant, but also the most intelligent and admirable. I respect them. I guess that's why we get along so well.

I also run ducks with the geese, but so far they are not as hardy and it remains to be seen whether they will make it through the year--they are quite vulnerable to foxes and weasels, and too dumb to realize that exploring around the tall grasslands solo is a sure recipe for quick death.

So far as concerns, I haven't found any. One would be water purity, since goats are so picky about that and geese are so damn messy--but it sounds like you have that figured out with separate paddocks. One theoretical problem (that I haven't experienced) that might happen in smaller spaces is if an aggressive gander got around a newly kidded goat mama, there could be a confrontation. But with my geese at least they seem to have incredible intelligence about what's threatening vs benign, even to the point of punishing ducks who bully others.

Congratulations on your animals!

I’m pasturing goats and geese and they all get along fine.

I didn't do it. You can't prove it. Nobody saw me. The sheep are lying! This tiny ad is my witness!
