The geographic center of Texas was mapped by surveyors. The Texas Highway Department placed this marker on Hwy. 377 between Brady and Brownwood. The cracked marker explains that the actual geographic center of Texas is five miles from this spot on private property. About 500 yards south of the marker is a rest stop.
Brady is a city in McCulloch County, Texas, United States. Brady refers to itself as the "Heart of Texas", as it is the city closest to the geographical center of the state, which is about 15 miles northeast of Brady.
The address is US-377, Rochelle, Tx 76872
I probably have passed by this location hundreds of od times and never paid any attention to it.
I read that if you plan a visit be sure to visit the Heart of Texas Park and climb the little tower for a beautiful view of Texas. The historical marker is, a separate from the park.
Plan a visit to the location and take the kids, a picnic lunch, and make it a fun day!
