How do you keep sparrows from taking over the martin house? We have a martin house and we see Martina come to visit it, but the sparrows take over and the Martina won’t stay.

When we had Martin Houses on our homestead and at our previous place, these are some of the things that we did that helped:

Every year we took them down and cleaned all the old nesting material out of the houses.

This can also be done on a monthly basis if you feel the house has been invaded by sparrows.

We painted our houses sky blue to deter the sparrows. Bright yellow also will work.

We also hung strings to discourage the sparrows.  I couldn't remember exactly how though.

I hope some of these suggestions will help you.
