Lisa here with tips and tales from our homestead habitat at Brunette Gardens.

What often gets overlooked in the so-called 'green' product revolution are simple energy efficiency solutions. This one's been around as long as there have been windows, but you can put a new twist on it with the use of recycled denim insulation.

While you can buy massive denim insulation rolls and line your attic with it (I have in the past), the stuff comes in small rolls for micro projects like this one. All you need is a measuring tape and hefty scissors.

The best part? The low cost. We paid less than USD 30 to insulate all 11 windows in our home, a 118-year-old Victorian. Read the full article here.

What other uses have you found for recycled denim insulation?

Fab idea, Lisa. I wish I'd thought to do it when I lived in a house with rattly old windows like that!

Thanks, Jane! It's worked out great for us, even softening the rattle.

BTW, 61 is not too old to be a permie!
