Nice demo, but what if your diagonal is a wire with a turnbuckle?

In that case you would need to go the other direction.  It all comes down to whether your diagonal is in compression (like the wooden slat in the demo) or in tension, where the weight of the gate is pulling down against a wire trying to stretch.
