Hi everyone, I'm planting my garden in south Denver soon. I'm looking to see if anyone around wants to trade seeds or sell seeds/seedlings. I'm looking for unusual, heirloom, or uncommon varieties of vegetables that are hard to find at the typical garden store.

Hello there! I wanna give you one heirloom crop that's native to tribes in the Denver area. The Ute pumpkin. It's found in some online seed stores. It look like a gray turban pumpkin. The Utes used to be from the Denver area, as have the Cheyenne and Arapahoe peoples. I'm still concentrating on my Potawatomi, Miami, Illinois and Winnebago peoples in Chicago, as well as Cherokee to honor my late grandmother from my father's side. Hope I helped. If you need anything, please feel free to reach me and we'll look into something that's native to the Denver area. Take care!

I stumbled on this post. I am in Denver. I do a little gardening. I might be interested in Ute Pumpkins seeds, if you still have any.

Greetings! There are some sites out there as long as you Google up. You'll find some. There's also from Seed Treasures in Minnesota there some Folsom Indian beans which are sold out till next year and Freemount beans which are native to the Rockies and are the closest beans to the Ute. I'll keep looking for more if you need me. Take care!

They don't do veggies, but for all your other native plant needs, you should check out Western Native Seed!  They are great for teaching how to make your yard native habitat (outside the veggie garden) and are a small, family run business I've interned with.  Great resource!  https://www.westernnativeseed.com/

Here are some crops connected to the Ute, Cheyenne and Arapaho peoples.
Corn:
1. Northern Ute
2. Bighead
3. Yellow Eagle
4. Separation From Fire
5. Walter Fire
6. Concho Brown
7. Pampa
8. Cheyenne Agency Striped
9. Arapaho white
Beans:
1.1500 year old beans pole
2. Blue Lake pole
3. Black Mexican or Turtle bush
Those are all I could find right now. I found most of the corn from GRIN Global from the USDA site. The rest could be found anywhere. I'll find more sources of which Native American crops grown in the Denver area centuries ago. I'll make it as edifying as possible for all. Thanks!
