My name is Clayton and I wanted to take a second to ask the community here a few questions to get myself steered in the correct direction. I am a new member (just made the registration) and to be honest know nothing other than, I want to learn all I can about this amazing device.

I am an enthusiast, outdoors-lover, and cheap-skate. I prefer to find ways of providing for my family on my own without the need for everyday luxuries that my generation (27 years old) seem to be so stuck on. In a nut shell my wife and I both are nutt-jobs and don't like being pawned around and forced to rely on major companies. Upon doing some research in ways to handle the needs to live we stumbled across RMH (alongside other interesting topics of discussion) and I realized that I could spend years gathering data through trial and error or ask people that have already figured out what doesn't work.

Being hard pressed for time and not able to spend hours delved off into forums, asking questions that I could easily read up on, and being a bother to everyone in this forum; I have gathered the start of many questions (which I hope to reduce to a minimal amount.)

1.) First and foremost does anyone has a list of reading material that I could access, purchase, or stumble across to brush up on the basics and/or advanced information pertaining to the contruction, maintenance, and use of an RMH. I am looking for any and all infomation but if it helps to focus on particulars.... We plan to one day build a home and would like to know the ins and outs of RMH so that we can build a home around the RMH ideals rather than remodel later. If anyone has such information and could either place them in order of relevance to ideals or actual substance based upon your knowledge and experience I would greatly appreciate it.

2.) Now for the more annoying questions and in my opinion are questions that can only be answered through experience:
A.) After reading the information offfered by answers for question 1.) does anyone have any particular experience that would be benificial to add onto the knowledge found from reading? ie: How many sq/ft a given sized RMH is capable of heating or other information that may or may not be readily available?

B.) If there is any way for members of the forum to poise themselves as a point of contact for consultation in designing, building, or innovating an RMH; would anyone be willing to do so? (Private messaging, swapping of alternate contact information, or public discussion.)

C.) Once the implementation of an RMH has been made are there any particular rules/guidelines to presenting it to the community for admiration, criticism, or conversation?

D.) After educating myself on RMH's would anyone have an issue with me generating a "Dummy Guide" for the topic. A compilation of resources that are useful to to those just learning about the device (given that there isn't such a topic already generated.)?

Thanks in advance for any responses. I understand all too well that I have asked for much, the work that comes into typing a detailed and specific list of material can be very time consuming, and that a simple thanks in advance wears out very quickly. Nonetheless, thanks once again,

US

Clayton,
First and foremost, buy the book "Rocket mass heaters, super efficient woodstoves you can build (and snuggle up to)." To be found as a hard copy or a downloadable pdf at this site: http://www.rocketstoves.com/
Furthermore, there's a forum dedicated to rocket mass heaters and their development.
See: this website
Oodles to read, most if not all of the answers to your questions might be there.

Awesome! Many thanks, Peter.

We've gotta get close enough to that helmet to pull the choke on it's engine and flood his mind! Or, we could just read this tiny ad:
