We built a small cob oven this weekend. It was fun. We are waiting all week to let it dry before scooping out the sand dome. Photos at the link above.

Why does the chimney have a bend in the middle? Seems like it could have gone straight up.

The roof is partly wood slats that hold up the tin. We had to put a bend in the stove pipe to make the rest of the pipe go through the roof at the right spot = which would be through only metal roof tin and not touch the wood slats. We did not hook the chimney up yet since the Cob is drying sloooowwwwwly .....very slowly......we just took the sand dome out yesterday. We make a tiny fire yesterday and a tiny one today. But, mostly are letting it dry out slowly.

We have huge cracks in it already. But, we are still happy with the oven and looking forward to cooking in it.

Thank you for looking at the photos and commenting.

Some cracks are inevitable - I've never seen a cob oven without them. Ours has them too, but it doesn't affect the baking performance.

ooops? I had a whole reply written and all of a sudden it disappeared?

Oh well - what I said was that my son worked on the chimney part today but did not hook it up. He was able to finish the roof top part
and will hook it to the oven later this week. He kept a small fire going all day. More cracks! Thanks for looking. He will post more
photos later this week.
