Just had to put a chicken down she was suffering for a couple days. This chicken acted like she was egg bound but there was a lot of blood. When I performed an necropsy to see what was going on I found a large shell-less egg. It was just the yolk but looked like it had been boiled. The consistency was hard and dense. Any thoughts on what happened here?
Sorry for the loss of your hen, Sean. I wonder if perhaps she had salpingitis? It's an inflammation of the oviduct caused by infection. It can cause them to lay weird looking "lash eggs" or sometimes, that material just builds up in the oviduct, which sounds a bit like what you describe, as it's kind of rubbery and dense. You can read more about it here and there are some pictures that might help you figure out if that was the case. https://extension.psu.edu/salpingitis-salpingoperitonitis
