For several years now I have led a volunteer group to repair the road to Silver Star Trailhead. We do some advocacy, but our emphasis is volunteer work on the road itself. We are planning another volunteer workday for September 10th. So, if anyone wants to give a hand and learn how to repair a gravel road, come on out!

Road work is dangerous, and not for everyone. But we have a mandatory safety meeting, wear reflective vests and implement other safety procedures. Also, the road is in such poor condition that 4 mph is pretty much the top speed. We operate under a Volunteer Maintenance Agreement with the Forest Service.

When: Checkin at 9 AM for a mandatory safety meeting at 9:30. Then we will work through the afternoon.

Where: The junction of USFS Road 4109 and DNR Road 1100

What to bring: Sturdy boots, gloves, a gallon of water, a sack lunch and any digging or cutting tools that you would like to use. Shovels, pickaxes, tampers, bowsaws, pruners, machetes and hoes will all be useful. Eye protection and hearing protection are also recommended.

Due to the Industrial Fire Prevention Level IV closure, we have had to reschedule the workday for September 17th.
