Through daily annihilation, I've staved off the squash bug invasion to my watermelons, but the damage has been done & the loss great.

I've seen in other posts regarding human-pest combat, that in some cases a decoy plant can be used to attract the pest to it rather than the desired plant.  Does anyone out there have experience with this that might help for next year?  Are they attracted to all cucurbits to include gourds, cucumbers, etc?

I think my best course of action is daily observation & elimination, but if I plant some sacrificial vines around the perimeter to serve as indicators of when the pests arrive, it might just save my other desired plants.  Thoughts?
