Hello everyone!
I'm currently volunteering in a farm in The Netherlands and I want to start a
project about composting with BSF and earthworms. The idea is to use food scraps, manure and
hay (usually they come together because almost every animal here has hay serving as floor for them) and maybe leaves and
compost it all in order to reduce waste and produce food for the animals and natural fertilizer for the soil. After a lot of reading (I have no
experience whatsoever) I decided to use the BSF as the first stage of the compost process and use everything that's left (things that the BSF don't want/use) with earthworms.
The problem is that here in The Netherlands, at least now, there are no BFS. So, my question is if there's anyone who knows BSF providers in The Netherlands or in some other close countries.
I've been reading a lot about BSF and, despite the fact that they are creatures who prefer temperatures above 22 C, I think I'll be able to use them year-round if I provide them a
greenhouse and some good isolation (the
maggots and the composting process produces a lot of heat which can be stored if proper isolation is provided).
Any thoughts, ideas or opinions are very welcome.
Also, I found some researches about BSF that can be useful to who's interested (I have more, if you're interested just say so):
