Cages to Colony.. Doe Tensions

I have a small setup- 2 Californian does and a buck..

I am in the process of moving my 2 does from wire cages to a colony pen... and there are tensions and fights galore- I am trying to go the method of bonding house bunnies. Strange territory, limited time, cages close, etc... but I still can't get past their fur pulling aggression.

Doe A has pretty good personality- and occasionally mounts Doe B for dominance when I put them together, Regardless of how it goes, the time always ends when I separate them due to Doe B's attacking, snarls, chases, pulling hair, angry fights...

Right now their 15x10 foot pen has a fence in the middle of it separating them... Is this something that I likely won't be able to remove? Any other ideas? Thoughts?

Just leave them alone and in a few days or week the pecking order will be established. I wouldnt try this with males though.

What I dont understand about a colony is how you keep the does away from the other does babies

if your does arent getting along then try starting with the buck and doe in the colony. one side for the buck and doe, one side for growout bucks.

the doe will be bred and have babies in the colony and the babies will grow up learning how to behave with the siblings and other rabbits. once they are about 4wks the doe will be having her second litter and probably best to put the young bucks into the second side for growouts.

**really just make sure you remove the young bucks by at least 8wks because about this time the buck will start chasing them because they will be seen as breeding competition. the boys can and will bite each others testicles off. if you remove the young bucks to the growout and they are kept together then there should be minimal fighting as long as they are butchered by 12wks, which they should be plenty big by then. the main thing is to not overcrowd them**

keep some does from her litters to grow up in the colony and they should be fine with each other. just make sure there isnt too many in the space you have and there are plenty of spots for nests and hiding spots to get away from each other when they want to be left alone.

another idea would be to keep your two current does in cages and keep does from their litters in the colony pen to grow up together. this should also be minimal fighting. if one doe becomes a troublemaker then remove her and the others should settle in together well. the only thing to watch for with this really is that none of the does start becoming trouble makers when they get close to kindling.
by removing trouble makers you are also breeding in nice behaved colony traits.

if you want to know exactly when does are going to kindle then you could keep the does in the colony and just remove them to the bucks cage when you want to breed and return the doe to the colony. this way you can control breeding and records.

if you leave the buck in the colony the whole time then the does will likely be bred back within 48hrs of kindling. so be prepared for litters every 4wks. does will usually not let the buck breed them if they are tiring and losing too much condition, or they will have smaller litters to compensate.
