Willow for Firewood

Not sure maybe this should be in 'woodland care' .....

We have a low-lying area that I wondered cold maybe be turned into a willow coppice.  But it seems from Patrick Whitefields book that willow is a brilliant SRC but only good for wood-chip boilers.  We have a log-burning stove/cooking range.  Would willow be any good for that?

it would likely burn too hot and too fast..i'd put the land into something a little more likely to be usable for your firewood..than willow..

well we have heated with wood in inside stoves for 38 years..and i find that the quickest growing firewood for our area is white ash..but now there is the problem with the emerald ash borers..also maples can grow quite quickly in our area but no where as quickly as ash.

there are a lot of trees that grow quickly for coppicing..but that is smaller wood that won't really hold fire very long..so i guess it depens on how long you need the fire to be held..it might make decent kindling wood..but for a long fire you need hardwoods.

esp if you need an overnight fire hold.

we now have a wood boiler..and it will burn just about anything..that is true..but it is a pain to put in..and expensive..but if you have that as an option..and want to burn the willow or alder or aspen that grow like weeds..then you could put in a wood boiler..and burn whatever you want.
