Anyone here from South Dakota?

If so - whatcha doing for permaculture?

Have any of you had any difficulties getting supplies in the winter for "green" living?

Jamie,
Not sure what happened. I was going back to answer one of your questions on the RMH string you posted and it was "GONE".Then I sent an email to you and it bounced.
I am, as you may remember in SDAK...Northeast corner.
I am just learning about permaculture and quite honestly haven't mastered the concept as yet.

Long story - I'll tell you in email.

I'm down here 13 miles north of Brookings in Bruce.

I'll send you an email right now.

Further south in Vermillion. Current project aquaponics, not so much permaculture but I'm on less than an acre.

We are in Manderson on Pine Ridge Rez... we have a fruit tree orchard that we hope to turn into a food forest, 2 hugelkultur beds, 2 natural houses (1 light straw clay, 1 cob/strawbale hybrid). This sumer we are working on rainwater catchment, rocket mass heater and swales.

Working towards a perennial food forest greenhouse situation. Just getting started. Worked a bit with the guys from Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute.

Hi all! I just joined permies. I live in Sioux Falls and am just starting my permaculture venture. My email is veronica@veronicashukla.com. That domain is my little, sparse website. Feel free to get in touch. I need permie friends!

Hey everyone! 👋🏻

I only heard about permaculture a few weeks ago but I'm hooked on the concept.

We're in the process of moving closer to the Sioux Falls area.  I'm excited to learn how our land handles our bipolar climate and figuring out what we can do to live a net positive lifestyle.

Hey there,

Been a permie for a few years now and relocated to central South Dakota in mid 2021. Haven't been online much since a house fire earlier this year so just seeing this. Just sealed our feelings about the amazing people we have met here. Still learning our new climate and have to change a lot of the ways I grew before when we lived in the rainforest of Northern California. Slowly getting our perennials established and learning how to deal with all the new bugs has been an adventure. We currently raise rabbits and chickens on almost an acre and have not settled on a method yet but figuring out what works for us slowly. Found out about bot fly's soon after our personal disaster, that was a fun adventure. Ick. Once we get a fence (this year!) our predator pressure will be a little less and I can try more ideas out.

I'm glad to see the topic gaining more ground here. Upon landing in our community I was glad to see many large farms using cover cropping but the rest of the concepts are still widely unknown. I'd love to travel to nearby properties and see other's projects, our state isn't too big!
