Favas transplant easily. That big seed stores a lot of energy to get them off to a quick start.
I also love sprouting favas indoors, and planting them out soon after the radical emerges.

I recommend planting them much earlier than that. As soon as the snow melts, or as soon as the earliest of spring flowers emerge if you don't have consistent snowcover.
I typically plant favas into beds prepared the previous fall.
