For those that buy bulk feed in small quantities, a ton or so at a time.

How do you unload your bulk feed bags?

I have a gin pole I use to lift the bags, I will add pics in a follow-on post. Then I shovel 800lbs at a time into a bulk feed storage bin. I am planning to convert an old almond trailer into a feed storage bin at some point.

The point to my rambling.
Does anyone have a suggestion on making or using some kind of Bulk bag discharge control?

Perhaps there is a trick to closing the bottom discharge without any fancy tooling?

I am also hoping folks have random suggestions on using these bags, answers to questions I haven't thought to ask.

I also would like this thread to cover more than just pigs, but I figured they are generally the most grain intensive critter. If someone smarter than me comes along and knows how to broadcast this post to more categories, I would be grateful.

I have to drag it off my pickup, then slowly take it to my shed with my 25 hp tractor (barely clearing the ground, thank to those long handles). There, once a week, I off-load one scoop at the time from the top and into the grain grinder I got from China. The grinder discharges into totes.

Probably not the answer you were looking for. I have not committed to anything permanent yet as my suppliers keep changing and some of them deliver and offload. However, I too do not have a permanent bin (good luck finding a good used 5t one). So, I may end up building a wooden box capable of holding a couple of tons with a chain hoist next to it - park the truck under the hoist, drive away and then discharge from the bottom, via a removable/swinging chute into the box. Or so I dream...

I'm tired of walking, and will rest for a minute and grow some wheels. This is the promise of this tiny ad:
