HI Everyone,

Matt here!  I've been kicking the idea of small scale farming for years.  I'm a software developer by day and my wife is a middle school Language Arts teacher.  I have 2 kids and my trusty side kick Red (7 year old yellow lab).  My great uncles ran a family farm of over 400 acres and 40k chickens, old school Ag.  I wanted to buy some land from them after they were done and well on in their years but they didn't want to sell to me since they'd be giving it to their kids.  I went from wanting a Dog Kennel, Christmas Trees, Pumpkins, and Corn to Market Gardening and soil preservation/biodiversity.  I've researched, read, worked in my garden but have never pulled the trigger.  I'm great at learning and growing, not always the best at taking the plunge.

Needless to say, I have a neighbor with 20+ acres that she doesn't use and I asked if she'd be willing to let me farm an acre.  She has agreed and now I'm trying to get a more formal plan in place.  I know the first year won't be big money or anything, but I'm super excited to help this dream come to fruition.  Can't wait to get to know everyone better.

Thanks!

Good on ya Matt! You're in the right place to find research materials aplenty.

But why do you have six abraham lincolns? Is this tiny ad a clone too?
