Hi folks! Does anyone know where to get shipped seeds or stock for Velvet Mesquite, the pure native variety that the folks in the Dunbar neighborhood of Tuscon grow? Nowhere local to me carries the variety. Thanks in advance!

You might try Desert Harvesters and see if they can either supply or point you in the right direction.

[EDIT] On further reading, it looks like they're not selling seed or trees right now and they appear unable to respond to individual queries. Native Seeds/SEARCH would have been my next suggestion, but I don't see seeds on their website. Just flour and pancake mix.

Best bet would be to find someone in Tucson who can pick some for you this summer. Just make sure they know how to spot the native species.

Hi Alder,
When I first read your title I thought it said "Velvet Mosquito", haha. Shows I need to slow down when I read.

Specific to your question, I would try to find any gardening clubs or seed saving clubs in the area. They might already have some, or be willing to save some for you. While I don't like everything Master Gardeners say.. they are generally easy to find and would probably have an idea about any groups in the area.
