I have been living off grid (pretty much) since 2009 and had offgrid plans here in Chiapas, Mexico. After a year of very bad luck and the plans fell through, I am out searching for a project to join. I am 39 (soon) male, born in England and have travelled Europe with a back pack or van or bicycle for a decade. I am a trained carpenter, had farm animals whilst growing up but didn't live on a farm, have learnt permaculture and bush craft shills since then.

It would be perfect to find a project or even help to create one, where people didn't get fooled into doing crazy stuff since 2020 and where interaction and sharing is Voluntary. I have a mountain of experience and it would be great to be active again, since I am doing nothing anymore!! Who is in Mexico, and what are your plans/project?

Hey there,
I am quite a bit older than you and will be heading to San Miguel De Alende Mexico in the coming months.  This is a good community for a person to start an off grid life so you might want to check out the area.  Lots of xpats there and there is ample space to live a country life.  They have a forum there where you can connect with people of all ages.  CivilSMA1@groups.io  You have to apply to be a free member, but that is easy.  Then you can connect with people up there if you are interested.

Hey Dan, find anything worthwhile yet? (following this thread) My research has me thinking about Belize. I purchased a travel trailer with solar and water filtration systems which I pull w my Jeep.  Wanting to find a place to save money in a warm climate for the winter. Let me know if you get a line on something. Have you attended any of the Primitive Skills gatherings? I am hoping to network there. (never been before) Either Rabbitstick in Idaho this September. Or Wintercount in Arizona in February before making my way south. Amazing folks from all over.  The real deal.  Bushcrafters and the Primitive Skills community should be able to cross-pollinate, one would think, lol. I may be starting another permie homestead in the near future. And have burnt out on doing everything myself for now.
Peace and all the best wherever your journey leads you.  Jon

Hi, Dan. Although it has been 6 months since your post, I just saw it. Have you found what you're looking for in Mexico? If not, let's communicate with each other about off-grid options in this beautiful country: vale8284@riseup.net.
