Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone has used garden aluminum sulfate such as the Hi-Yield brand as a mordant for dying. I think the concentration is about 16-17 percent aluminum sulfate.

Is the aluminum sulfate that you buy from say, Dharma trading 100% aluminum sulfate?

Thank you!

I use gardening alum all the time.   It will likely have impurities that can shift the colour,  so it's hard to get as predictable results as using some from a dye supplier or grocery store,  but it works as a mordant.
