Hello friends!

This year I have to put most of my tomato plants in containers due to running out of space where I haven't planted tomatoes before. I've started a new bed with a thick layers of good stuff - dried grass clippings, sawdust, leafmold, covered with leaf mold. The planters will go on top of this. next year, this new bed should be ready to go.

So my questions. I have a bale of Promix but it may not be enough for all of my pots so I'd like to make some potting soil with the leaf mold. Recipes on the net vary. Any suggestions?

Equal parts perlite, sand leafmold and compost sound about right?

Any recommendations for fertilizing the containers?

It's fairly late to get the tomatoes out there here in eastern Pennsylvania but it was down to 49º F last night!

If the leaf mold is fully composted it will look similar to a rich soil mix and would not need anything else.

I am lucky that I have tons of leaf mold under my trees.

I like to recommend compost tea for fertilizing plants.

This thread might offer some suggestions:

Thanks! I want to get a bubbler for compost tea! It's hard to find much info about growing in leaf mold.
