Anyone into making glass off the grid?

I have been researching making glass? Especially off the grid glass. I want to make windows and greenhouses. Anyway I watched an episode of Kevin McClouds Man Made Home on youtube.com he made glass from sand, limestone, and soda. They used a propane oven to do it. I did some research and the Egyptians had a way to do it without propane. I am wondering if anyone here has any experience getting an oven up to the proper temperature without all the fancy on grid help. Does anyone think a rocket stove could get hot enough? Is needs to be 2732F or 1500c to melt the sand. That is hot, ghost pepper hot. Maybe a solar concentrator could pull it off?

This is a very impractical idea. You will find yourself spending 50-100 times more money for poorer quality than simply purchasing the sheets.

Typical sheet glass is baked for over 24 hours and in order to get that perfect transparency it is floated on tin which is liquid at a temperature that the glass is a solid. Describing the mechanical processes as complex is an understatement. The best you could hope for is glass blowing where the quality varies by wide margins.

This guy is making glass with pure sand. Sure it's not 100% what I wanted but it shows the sun can pull it off. He didn't add the soda or limestone. They make the glass clear as well as lower the temperature needed. He is clever using the 3d printing tech.

That is pretty cool Christian, As the guy in the desert showed if you can focus the suns rays you can get some crazy heat. There is a company in Denver that is using mirrored troughs that are focussed onto a "tank" filled with wood that reaches 1300 C and gassifies the wood. But they are using a lot of mirrors.

Might be able to use the same idea to focus the rays onto the glass furnace and get the temperatures needed. Or do a parabolic dish with the furnace at the focal point.
Just have to be sure not to get your hands in that lazer ray !! The guy in the desert had me worried there a couple of times.

It would be interesting to see if a rocket stove flame going to a glass furnace could get the right heat.

Solar Death Ray video. This might heat a crucible to the right temp if it was equipped with a solar tracker and a way to hold the ingredients.

Making glass from sand would be a great experiment in itself but if I was making glass off the grid I would be making it from waste glass, there is plenty around and you would know it would be pure.

I started down the path today to off the grid glass. I picked up a big screen TV off Craigslist for free. Anyway I took it apart to see what it useful in it. I got a 50" Fresnel lens, three glass lenses and a mirror. I doubt the mirror can take any heat as it's a frontal mirror. I am going to see if I can't get a cloths rack or something at a garage sale to mount it. I expect I should be able to bring a crucible up to 400F (204C) or more. I need to get a crucible and dark glasses now. I will also have to aim mirrors at the crucible also. I may also have to concentrate the light coming from the Fresnel lens.

Green power science is getting close to off the grid glass. I still need to figure out funding or do some more scraping.
