I was looking though the different dept of forestry state tree nurseries and learned that West Virginia shut down operations at Clements. I know for fact they have American chestnut trees there that they were experimenting with cross breeding to make them blight resistant. the story I read said the state legislature stopped the funding and tree sales in previous years dropped from millions of trees sold each year to 200,000 the last year they were open.
I wonder whats going on with all the trees they have planted in the ground.
if anyone lives near there and wants to explore I sure would like to have a bucket of those American chestnuts to plant and have another variety in my orchard.
