Hey there permie crew,

I’m laying down my earthen floor basecoat on Sunday September 24 and wondering if anyone wants to get in on it. I have a large mixer, so really the task is just leveling the basecoat within an 1/8” of the target, which is 1” below finished floor.

Anyone want to learn how to do this?

Feel free to private message me.

Not sure how long ago this was! Did you install an earthen floor in your Faswall home? We are just starting our Faswall build in southern Missouri Ozarks after a year of planning. The blocks arrive in a couple of weeks. We are just prepping our pad and digging our footings now. We plan a concrete floor but I don’t really want to do styrofoam insulation underneath, which everyone insists we must do! How has your earthen floor held up? It looks like you are in western Montana, which obviously is a very different climate from here. Just wondering if there are other options besides the styrofoam under the concrete!

I used perlite insulation which I dont think I’d do again, too dusty and too much work. Rockwool is an option if you don’t want foam, or pumice if you want the more natural option. The earthen floor is awesome, would recommend, it’s held up great. I also am really happy with Faswall after living in it for a couple years.

A local builder near me recently did an earthen floor with coarse chunky biochar underneath for insulation. Worked a treat.
