I'm looking to figure out how to create / house / manage a small flock for egg production (for household consumption, not hatching) on a small scale (one to two dozen eggs per week)
I've found information about gross egg production and production per clutch but what I'm trying to do is figure out how to organize so that I get roughly the same amount of eggs per week throughout the year. In addition thoughts about housing, optimum gender ratios,
feed and light management would be very helpful.
The climate is mediterranean:
Daily average high temperature ranges between 60f in winter & 85f in summer
Daily average low temperature ranges between 45f in winter & 70f in summer
Daylight hours range between 10 hours per day in winter to 16 hours per day in the summer.
So what I'm looking for is a specific formula along the lines of:
X ducks produce X eggs per week on X week/month cycle.
and the related feeding, light and care program to ensure regular yields.
I've read a great deal about general care and management of an egg laying flock (both in for Muscovies and for ducks in general) but I'd greatly appreciate whatever insight or ideas yall cared to share.
Thanks in advance.
