The land has not yet closed. It's due to close on May 31. And yet we are excited to start planning workshops as we build. To that end, we have some questions about interest levels.

tefa - textured earth, food all year - growing citrus outdoors, in Montana.

May or may not overlap or coincide with wofati, pond, hugelkultur and berm workshops to maximize track hoe use.

IF you would be able to:
  • travel to the site in Montana
  • have the funds to pay a workshop fee
  • be able to take time off work

  • we want to hear from you in this thread.

So, IF you fit the three criteria above, please reply and include:
    (a) how many podcasts you've listened to
    (b) whether you would be willing to camp in a tent
    (c) how many days works for you - 1-2 days, 2-3 days or more.

Workshop space will be limited, so those responding here will be given priority registration once we actually close and have more details nailed down.

Absolutely in - TEFA! Would also be interested in HK, ponds and berms too! Looking for Lemons in the shadows of the Crazies!

Willing to travel to the general Missoula vicinity and sleep in a tent - I'm only 240 miles or so east of y'all and I drove to Great Falls for the recent Into. to PC class there.

Willing to pay - (FWIW, the fee for one day Intro to PC class was $40-$70 w/sliding scale + a dish for the potluck lunch which worked out very well).

Time off - not a problem, but a weekend might work best (i.e. Friday evening dinner & intro session with work session on Saturday and Sunday).

Very new to the site and have listened to only a few podcasts , but trying to do at least one a day while reading Holzer, Bane, Hemenway, et.al. and planting and caring for about 500 new trees and bushes. In fact, I should be out there watering them in - so with that I'll bid you fond farewell!

See you in the Forest Garden!

I'd need to take my vacation to coincide with the workshop, but that's the stuff that I find most compelling about what Paul's doing.

    (a) I have listened to all the podcasts except for the last couple and the ones I haven't yet bought.

    (b) My expectations are based on how much I'm expected to pay. I'll sleep anywhere, but if its during the summer, outdoors is not so bad. I'm sure that if we are going to be used for manual labour (I'm taking that as a given) that will provide substantive returns, I wouldn't be the only one wondering if you'll entertain a work exchange barter system.

    (c) I would likely be able to stay for up to a week, but I think that if there were a week of workshops, and then a week of work opportunities to gain experience and be of some actual use versus untaught labour, then I'd take another week for that, plus travel time.

As to the overlap, I would, in fact, suggest it. If you are going to the trouble of teaching workshops, it makes sense to give hands-on experience. Why not have as a goal for a week or two-week workshop series a finished wofati, a pond, and hugelbeets and berms, and I don't know if you're including swales, or just lumping all tefa-related water harvesting techniques under the pond label. It makes sense to me to stack functions in this manner. What do you guys think?

CONGRATULATIONS on closing on The Land!

I clearly understand how much you have to do, but I hadn't seen the classes come up in the rotation in a while. Also wanted to update my podcast status - I am 10:32 into #67 (I started at #1).

Waiting patiently (for TEFA, Hugelkultur and earthworks classes) in south central MONTANA!
