For Permies who want to be close to town but also want to have enough land, space and water to really get a good Permaculture project rolling, there is a small, energy efficient house for sale on 5-acres just ten minutes from downtown Spokane. Yes, it's close to town, but it has a nice rural feel.

The owner, who also built the house, is an avid organic gardener who really wants someone with respect for the Earth and Permaculture sensibilities to become the next occupant.

The house has craftsman wood floors, doors, and a central staircase along with rich wall colors that are are warm and inviting. The Norwegian woodstove heats the entire house in winter and extra insulation keeps the house cool in summer. The house has ample double-paned windows for natural light. This lot (known as a secondary lot because it is far back from the county road) includes a stand of Ponderosa Pines and fenced pastures with deep, sub-irrigated soils. In the area around the house is a fenced vegetable garden, a 20-tree organic fruit orchard, a chicken coop, and hay storage. The grounds also include two willow trees, several heritage apple trees, rugosa roses, lilacs, rhubarb, black currants, raspberries, and gooseberries. The well provides 20+ GPM clear, clean water-- more than enough for home, animals, and garden. There's also a shallow well with a hand pump. It also has a lot of lawn that any Permie would love to transform into productive habitat.

Lots of summer sun for solar energy; winter, eh, but there is a good deal of harnessable wind.

Check out this slide show. This could be your new home.
