Hi Permies,

I had 4 Indian Runner Ducks. Two Male, two female. 2 months old. We carefully selected eggs, hatched them in an incubator. Hand held them when they hatched, hand fed them. Raised them with love. Trained them to be used to be handled. Trained them to to be tame and hunt for slugs. Trained to come come to associate a whistle with slugs (food). We spend £120 on them (material, eggs, food, electricity,...) And spend an estimated 100 hours training and caring for them.

A neighbours dog came and killed all four in an instant.

The neighbour has offered to compensate them.

How much are they worth? How much would you pay for a pair of trained ducks that turn a problem (slugs) into a solution (eggs)?

In mourning,
Ludwig

Welcome to permies Ludwig, so sorry for your loss!
I don't know much about ducks so hopefully someone else will chime in.
