I would like to know what experiences, negative or positive, people have of keeping quail, one or two, with chickens, three or four, and one rooster. I will be a complete beginner in keeping any birds except a budgie

Welcome to permies. I can't speak to your question about quail but there was a thread about chicken to rooster ratios recently, suggestions that about 10:1 is good.

Thanks Ben. Maybe I'll have to rethink the size of my run and coop.

Quail spook VERY easily, and lots kill themselves by flying into roofs and walls trying to get away from sounds.

Would do em separately. Quail are very happy in tight quarters...
