Hiya. We are taking down one shade tree and planting a much smaller one in its stead. We're putting in a #7 sized Pagoda Dogwood. It's going to look shockingly puny because it is. What can we do to jumpstart growth for the dogwood as much possible? Special fertilizer in the hole? We have goat poo bedding, wood/hugel stuff, any manner of wet or dry stuff, really. I even have some good, spent punky mushroom logs. I'm open to commercial products or amendments too. I just want it to grow!

I'm always a fan of a dollop of bone dust, a dollop of worm castings, and a heap of compost mixed into the native soil when planting new shrubs/trees.

I'm a fan of use what you have handy so I wouldn't steer you to any products but just consider what a plant will want to establish big healthy roots.
