Hello,

I am not sure if anyone can help me, but i want to know how is the olive fruit fly population threat categorized.
I have searched for days not on the internet and i have found literally nothing about it.
I come from Greece and there is a EU program for the olive fruit fly, to fight it with the method of attract and kill.
The amount of traps that you have to use is determined by the threat of the population of the fruit fly.
In my search i found only the way that this is done (mcPhail traps) but I can't find how you categorize its as low/mid/high threat anywhere.
Even in the official documents of the program (both Greek ministry and EU) this is not specified and i cant find any regulation that states it.

Is it supposed to be abstract?

Please help me!

Hi Manos, I haven't direct experience, but it sounds like the traps are not quantitative. According to Univeristy of California Integrated Pest Management program

While there is no relationship between fruit damage and the number of insects found in traps, surveying trap catches can evaluate treatment efficacy by comparing trap catches before and after treatment (when less flies should be caught).

So you probably will get a feeling for how many insects cause how much damage in your location in time. Not very helpful I'm afraid. Maybe others using the traps might have more experience to share.
