Harmony joined our family from a shelter about a year ago.   She was quite timid. The shelter clearly had concerns regarding how good of a fit she was with us or anybody.  Within a month, she began to impress me with her herding skills. I have long been concerned about how she would react to a real threat.

Yesterday 3 coyotes entered our property. Harmony began her most ferocious growling when they reached the far side of our garden.  That, of course, got my attention. She stayed inside the fence for our backyard. She always kept a fence between her and the coyotes.  As they circled toward the enclosure for the baby pigs, she jumped over the fence separating the yard from their pen.  She herded them into their shelter and stood guard.  Between barking and growling she would glance toward the goat pens.   They approached the female goats, and she leaped from pen to pen until she reached them. The coyotes then went back toward the baby pigs where she joined them again.    They gave up and vanished into the woods.

I watched from our back door and kitchen window.   I had a 45 carbine, but there was no need for me to intervene.  She is an expert.  Yes, she got a very large bone as a reward.
