I got a Soda Stream for Christmas.

Anyone want to share their recipes?

Here is something I found on Reddit:

 Basic simple syrup as a base for flavors (not sugar free):

Ingredients

   1 to 1 1/3 cup sugar

   1/8 teaspoon Kool-Aid lemonade unsweetened drink mix or citric acid

   1 cup very hot water

   1 cup corn syrup

Instructions

   Dissolve the sugar and citric acid or Kool-Aid in the hot water.

   Add the corn syrup and stir well.

To this simple syrup base, you can add the following for different flavors:

   Cream Soda: 3/4 teaspoon vanilla

   Root Beer: 1 teaspoon McCormick root beer concentrate

   7-Up: 1 tablespoon bottled lime juice and 2 tablespoons bottled lemon juice

   Squirt: 1 1/2 cups white grapefruit juice

   Lime Soda: 1 tablespoon bottled lime juice and 1 teaspoon lime extract

Those are the ones I've done so far with success. Once you add the flavoring, mix well and chill until cold.

To make a soda: 1/4 cup flavored syrup to 1 cup soda water.



For simple syrup I have been using half granulated pure cane sugar (the "default" household sugar in Canada) and half water, and leaving out the corn syrup, but you can do it either way. I also don't bother to heat it - I just shake the bottle until dissolved.
I add a tablespoon or two of the simple syrup OR a couple of squirts of zero calorie natural liquid stevia to water carbonated in the 500 ml bottle, and then add the flavor ingredients

For citric acid I either add a few drops of LorAnn Tart & Sour, or a splash of bottled ReaLemon juice (no Koo lAid).
I then add to the 500 ml bottle:
1/4 to 1/2 tsp of pure vanilla extract for cream soda. If I have it I also add 1/8 tsp LorAnn Marshmallow or Cotton Candy flavor.
1/2 tsp or so root beer concentrate (I use LorAnn as I can't find McCormick in Canada) for root beer.
For 7-Up I use 1/2 Tbsp ReaLime and 1 Tbsp ReaLemon juice.
For Lime Rickey I use 1 Tbsp ReaLime juice and 2 Tbsp Tropicana Orange Juice with some pulp (I like pulp in lime rickey),
For Squirt, I use 3 Tbsp of Tropicana Red Grapefruit juice.
A local favourite where I live is Grapefruit and Lime: 2 Tbsp Tropicana Red Grapefruit juice, 1 Tbsp ReaLime, 1 Tbsp Tropicana Orange Juice with some pulp.

For Orange "Krush" soda I use 3 Tbsp Tropicana Orange Juice with some pulp and about 1/4 tsp of McCormick's Pure Orange Extract, along with drops of Orange (or equal parts Red and Yellow) food color.

If you like Cream Soda here is a recipe for the syrup:

Ingredients

   3 ½ c. Water
   3 c. granulated Sugar
   ½ c. Light Brown Sugar
   3 tbsp Vanilla Extract

nstructions

   Gently stir water & sugars together in a medium saucepan, over medium heat.
   Bring to a simmer & cook for 10 – 15 minutes.
   Remove from heat & cool completely.
   Stir in vanilla & enjoy as syrup, or use it to make Homemade Cream Soda!

Notes
Store at room temperature in an airtight jar or container. Makes a great gift!



Homemade Cream Soda

Ingredients

   2 oz Homemade Vanilla Syrup
   10 oz Carbonated Water Club Soda, Sparkling Water, or SodaStream

Instructions

   Pour vanilla syrup into a 12oz or larger glass & slowly add carbonated water, being careful not to overflow the cup. With a long spoon, gently stir. Enjoy while still cold & bubbly!

Notes
Customize the depth of your flavor by adding more or less of the vanilla syrup to meet your own palate’s cravings.

They're great for making home made sodas except I'm less than pleased with the syrups. The flavors weren't all that exciting and the fruit sources were not listed as organic. Decided we'd be better off making our own and created this recipe the other day for lemony lime soda.

Ingredients: Three limes, three lemons, 3 cups of water, 1 1/2 cups sugar Prep: Zest your lemons and limes. Be careful not to zest too deeply as the white part under the skin is bitter in both the limes and the lemons. Set the zest aside. Juice the remaining lemons / limes. Set the juice aside.

   Bring three cups water to a boil. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar and stir until sugar has dissolved.

   Lower the heat and add the zest from the lemons and limes. Simmer for 10 minutes

   Remove the syrup mixture from the heat and add the lemon / lime juice.

   Filter the syrup through a fine mesh sieve.

   Cool. Syrup can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks. Adding a pinch of ascorbic acid will lengthen the shelf life, but this syrup never lasts that long in our fridge We choose organic lemons and limes for this and use filtered poland spring water. Adjust the sugar up or down according to your sweet-tooth.



I've been using to make my own ginger ale mixes.

Plain Ginger Ale: chop up a big piece of fresh ginger, simmer in water about 20 minutes, strain the pieces out and then add cane sugar or stevia and simmer down into a syrup. I start with 1/3 cup of sugar and then after tasting the first batch will add stevia to sweeten further as needed.

Variations: add cranberries or a green tea bag with the ginger. I'm convinced that my cranberry green tea ginger ale kept me from getting any colds last winter.

I also found a tip to add 1/8 teaspoon pink salt to the water canister if using filtered water, like I do.

My favourite is lemon, lime, and bitters - not sure how to make it in bulk since I use a commercially prepared syrup.  Shouldn't be too hard though, as long as the lemons and limes are available - difficult perhaps, if you live in the colder climes.  A squeeze of each plus the bitters, and no need for sugar?
