Hi folks - I thought this project, and webinar about it, would be of interest to this community. The Nakivale Biochar Project is an initiative led entirely by refugee farmers residing in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in southern Uganda, the oldest settlement of its kind in Africa. After nearly 3 years of development, the project is now producing and applying biochar locally, and generating audited carbon removal credits as of this week. Join us next Tuesday Feb 4, at 12pm ET and learn more about the history, people and business model involved in this fascinating project, and the innovative new way that carbon credits are certified and sold directly between the project and credit buyers.

There are actually several biochar projects going on in Africa. Elaine Ingham has worked with a group in Malawi that has really helped the farmers to have much greater sustainability and production out of their fields.  It's nice to see that some people are helping others even if they don't make lots of money off of it.
