Long-time dreamer, but new to the game. Last fall, we bought 20 acres in northeastern Washington. It's mostly forest (mainly grand fir, hemlock, douglas, and larch, plus ponderosa, lodgepole, and white pine here and there) with some logged areas and an rv pad with a view. No water or electricity. We've been living on the property in a tipi since October. There are some very large slash piles on the property from when it was logged about a decade ago.

The long-term plan is to experiment with some alternative building methods and grow food with a combination of back-to-eden and hugelkultur (to utilize the slash piles and all the grand fir that needs to be thinned).

After spending the winter in the tipi, I'm hoping to build a small underground house (Mike Oehler's general design (i.e., uphill patio), but likely with different materials (currently thinking cinder block)) with a rocket mass by next winter.

I'm looking forward to tapping into the collected wisdom here!

Welcome to permies, from your neighbour "down south" of you.  I think you'll find lots of commonalities in goals around here.
